Name: A Woman's Love, Laughter and Loss During the Vietnam War
Date: March 3, 2015
Time: 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM PST
Event Description:
Dr. Angel Pilato, a retired United States Air Force Lt. Col., presents a talk, “How Being Part of History Turned into a Memoir”. It is based on her own memoir, Angel’s Truck Stop: A Woman’s Love, Laughter and Loss During the Vietnam War.

Dr. Pilato’s story starts at the height of the Vietnam conflict when she became the first woman officer to manage an Officers’ Club and the first to run one on a fighter pilot base in Southeast Asia. The fighter pilots christened the club, "Angel's Truck Stop", which became the backdrop for conflicts, challenges, and choices she encountered. Dr. Pilato’s memoir reveals a woman's struggle to fit into a man's world as the realities of war eroded her ideals, and the plans she imagined for her future evaporated.

A question and answer period will follow Dr. Pilato’s presentation; copies of her book will be available for purchase.

The lecture is part of the Springfield Library Foundation’s Arts, Culture & Education programming at the Springfield Public Library. The Springfield Library Foundation is a charitable non-profit dedicated to enhancing library services in Springfield.
