About Doulas of Lane County ~ The Doulas of Lane County are a group of professionally trained birth and postpartum doulas who practice in Eugene and Springfield and surrounding areas. The word doula comes from a Greek word meaning, "woman who serves". Birth doulas provide continuous, non-medical, physical and emotional support to laboring mothers and their partners from early labor through the hours after birth. Postpartum doulas are knowledgeable professionals who assist families during the critical period immediately after the birth of their baby. They "mother the mother" and offer physical, emotional and informational support to the family as well as practical help.
